Merit has concentrated their efforts on making your SWPPP preparation easy. By saving you time, hassle, tracking and cost it will increase your confidence that a third party provider can operate this responsibility at a lower cost than you doing it internally. There is no contract or commitment on your part and we operate on a per project basis. We offer many services and below is a summary of just a few.

SWPPP Preparation

Over the years we have seen compliance change from a rough understanding of regulations, posting notice and some silt fence to a thorough knowledge of the Federal, State and Local regulations. It is our experience that many home builders, contractors and developers are just throwing money at compliance without understanding there is a better more efficient way to comply. We take the time to review the erosion control plan prepared by the engineer and trim out the excess BMPs drawn into the plans. Most civil engineers draw these plans without a regard to the cost of the project and feel erring on the side of caution is best. Thus, sites are over-drawn with sediment and erosion control devices that exceed the requirements for compliance costing you thousands of dollars in install, maintenance and removal. It is our goal to visit the site and suggest BMPs that will achieve compliance without the unnecessary cost. Wrapping a site in silt fence is not always necessary and compliance cost can be cut drastically by choosing Merit to prepare your SWPPP.

We will also prepare all the necessary paper work and ensure they are sent to the appropriate authorities (State and local municipality) to ensure compliance.  We post this information on site as needed and ensure your project starts off with compliance, allowing enforcement officers to know your taking storm water compliance seriously.

SWPPP Documentation

Now that you have saved money with the SWPPP preparation, it is time to focus on the largest part of compliance and that is documentation. It is estimated that 70% of storm water compliance involves paper work. The best part of compliance is the SWPPP is a living document, designed to be modified and updated in the field. Merit will conduct weekly inspections on your site to ensure all of your storm water efforts are being documented correctly. The documentation is the only response we have to an enforcement visit and if it isn’t written down, it didn’t happen. This allows you to receive credit, if you will, for all the efforts made in achieving compliance. Merit will also provide on site training to ensure your builder or superintendent understands compliance allowing a better understanding and teamwork to achieve lower cost on compliance.

Upon completion of your project, w will prepare the Notice of Termination and mail these documents to the appropriate authorities. We will also conduct a final inspection of the SWPPP to ensure all the necessary documents are stored with the SWPPP for quick access to prove compliance should the request be made by enforcement to show your compliance program on a particluar job ( law requires the documents be kept 3 years, some states even longer).
